Panama's European influence comes from that European country: SPAIN. The Spanish explored the isthmus in the 1500s, discovering the Pacific Ocean and establishing the first European colony on the Pacific coast in Panama.

The ruins of that city and the culture of Panama in today's modern city show evidence of strong Spanish influence and culture in Language, Architecture, Education, music, food, and system of Government.

Other than Spain, there is not a lot of European influence in Panama. There is a much stronger North American (USA) influence due to the American's building of the Panama Canal, their strong presence here for almost one hundred years and the use of American currency, many American franchise eateries here, (McDonald's, Burger King, KFC, etc) the use of American built airliners in COPA, the state airlines, and the strong presence of American products on retail shelves. May 1st is a European holiday and it too is recognized in Panama.
