Why do the republican plutocrats refer to "mom and pop" small business, when they are talking about tax cuts?

When republican plutocrats use the term "mom and pop" when talking about a "small business," especially when they are talking about tax cuts, are they being dishonest and attempting to mislead the average citizen?

Since the Small Business Administration generally defines a small business as one that has less than 500 employees and revenue of less than forty four million dollars ($44,000.000), I know I am being deliberately misled when I hear that corporation referred to as a mom and pop small business. How many mom and pop businesses have 500 employees? That is a corporation, not a mom and pop small business.

The idea of a mom and pop small business brings to the mind of the average citizen the corner grocery store with less than ten employees, or a dry cleaners, or a restaurant, or an automobile dealership, and certainly not 500 employees. The idea of a small business is enough to mislead us, but to intentionally add the "mom and pop" term is a deliberately misleading way to fool us.

The same thing happens with the class system. What exactly is the lower, middle, and upper income classes. What dollar amount defines these classes?

Update:

@Tom R: Then why not call the trickle down system the tinkle down system? That sounds more like what it actually is.

Update 2:

@Joe: I believe exactly the opposite of what you believe. BTW, did you know the stock market has doubled since 2009 when President Obama took office? Misguided? Did you know that instead of loosing 800,000 jobs a month during the last, thank God, of the Bush term, to a constant increase monthly starting in President Obama's third month in office of job growth?

You are good at calling names, but you are not so very good with facts.

Update 3:

@Mujer Alta: Thanks for that information. Imagine, someone actually answering the question asked.

"Mom and Pop" stores conjure up images of old time, small town America. It's part of the propaganda. It's like the bipartisan, "small business" bill the president signed last week. It allows "small businesses" to skirt some SEC reporting requirements and to raise capital on Wall Street. I know a lot of small business people - our town is full of them - and none of them need to "raise capital" anywhere or to file reports with the SEC. "Small business" in the political world seems to mean any business with stockholders and an annual report but not most of what we see in the little storefronts along Main Street.

Normally, economic classes are defined by percentages of population. The upper class begins with those in the top 2% of earnings or $250,000. The Middle Class is a huge thing (growing smaller by the minute) with earnings from around $25,000 to $249,999. The top earners of the Middle Class could be called "Upper Middle Class" while the bottom of the Middle Class are the "Working Poor".

This interactive graph has some interesting information because it also takes education, employment and wealth into consideration.

500 is the maximum , not an average

    .

99.8 % of small businesses have less than have 500 employees

    97.8% have less than 50 employees .

95% have fewer than 9 employees

99.3 % of all businesses have revenues under 44 million

Because there are a whole lot more small businesses than there are "evil, greedy" corporations. The SBA definition is just an average of all of the small businesses in America. Mom and Pop stores incorporate because there is a smaller risk to the owner if they go belly up.

You are right we are being fed propaganda by the right wing. They own almost all of the media not to mention the corporate commercials which generate revenue for the media.

Everything Republicans accuse Demograts or liberals of is actually what they are doing themselves, they are the oppossite party. Republicans destroy Mom and PoP business by giving all the tax breaks to the very wealthy.

How can they get away with all the falsehoods they spill out their greedy mouths.

How can they not pay more than 15 percent when the middle class pay 20-25 percent. What would happen if they actually paid 39 percent, they might have to cut down from ten houses to eight, what a shame. Romney paid something like 15 and the years he wont release were even less, it is embarrassing to the country.

More people need to vote and more people need to research and not get their info from TV

A mom and pop business does not usually have 500 employees, and a 500 employee business may or may not be able to survive Obama's hell. The true mom and pop business you've correctly noted (and according to our perceptions) will be wiped out by Obama, and with them, the economy and opportunity for young entrepreneurs to get started.

That man is a disgrace to this nation and anyone supporting him is a very misguided person (put mildly to stay within the rules of Yahoo) and also a counterfeit American and a betrayer of the worst order.
