In a SHTF situation, how would you or could you purify pool water?
I'm just curious. How would you make pool water into drinking water?
Would boiling it work? Would it taste like pure water?
Also just in case this is not exactly a hunting question,
Whats the difference between 45 ACP and 45 Long Colt.
(I put this in this section because it seems like hunters of all people should know how to make dirty water drinkable.)
Is there a device i can use to make 100% sure its safe to drink? And if you say drink it I'm going to throw a shoe at you

A reverse osmosis system would be effective although the system would have to be maintained more often due to the MUCH higher TDS (total dissolved solids) and calcium levels. But it would work. That or boiling it and running it through a brita 5-6 times. As the pool water TDS can be up to 3,500. 3,000-3,300 is usually the TDS of urine.
If you do not have a reverse osmosis system there is a trick I was taught by a Vietnamese POW. It's a bit labor intensive though. You dig a pit 3-4 feet deep and wide, You get a plastic tarp or sheet, preferably thin and clear and put it over the pit using rocks or bricks to hold it down. You put a container in the middle and you put something heavy but small in the center of the plastic and have it lowered in the middle right over the container so it looks somewhat like a funnel. As the water evaporates the vapor hits the tarp and due to the shape rolls down into the container. The soil acts as a natural filter while the evaporation leaves behind the TDS and calcium. And you can add water as needed to the pit. Although you would have to dig multiple ones over time for it to give enough water as its effectivness can wane over time.

you shouldn't would desire to alter the water as long because it truly is balanced meaning all 5 water properties plus metals are in there ranges. PH,CL,ALK,CAL,CYA if your CYA point gets too severe or calcium point this might reason you to would desire to empty the water with a view to get those ranges down the different chemical ranges you may regulate utilising chemical ingredients.

A solar still will leave the chlorine behind.
Etc, etc, etc.

1, use the sun to steam off the chlorine. chlorine is known to vaporize at temps above 80F. on cold days + heated pool, you cna actually see a low concentration chlorine gas fog over the pool.
keep the pool free of contaminants to prevent stagnation of water.
2, filter & sun-distill the water. only viable in hot & sunny areas like southern California, Arizona, or New Mexico.
using the intense sun (that's more or less available year-around) heat water until it vaporizes and catch the vapors with a plastic tarp. the vapors condense back to water for drinking, use a filter to remove any unwanted debris.
3, forced distillation- distill the water 1 pot at a time. labor intensive. might be more feasible to try the ground water or another water source.
4, solar dechlorination + intensive filtering
might taste funny. will require pressurization, also salvage a bunch of filters- typically the local water district supply stores and the water filters in hardware stores that's typically used to filter house water.
5, solar dechlorination + boil water for drinking/cooking, filter for greywater use. recycling boiled water from greywater use.
I do not know of an inexpensive device that makes pool water into drinking water. if you want one you'll need to make one. it's not hard especially if you do it before SHTF. you can use the sun in a major way if you do that. requires lots of black paint. a still and probably oil + electric pump. you use those solar water heating panels and pump oil thru it- oil has a higher boiling temp than water. the oil is cycled thru a water heater/still that turns pool water into steam. waste heat is run thru a boiler that heats up income pool water force dechlorination before being distilled.
something that we probably know about and rather not think:
if it's not your own backyard pool, real realize that all public swimming pools are roughly 3% piss, right? plus 1% spit.
as for 45 ACP vs 45 Colt, use Wikipedia.

Boil it and or filter it through charcoal.

You could remove all the pubes and weave them into a filter! LOL! Seriously though, there are other places to find water more effectively and cleanly. The difference is that 45 ACP is 45 caliber automatic colt pistol, where 45 long colt is a revolver round.

Lots of chemicals in pool water in addition to a lot of nasty organics (like the last time you peed in it) and I would not count on boiling to remove it unless you distilled it. You could probably live on it for a while, but it probably would not be healthy.
.45 Colt (the "long" is superfluous) is a rimmed (originally black powder) cartridge designed in 1872 for the Colt Single Action Army revolver.
.45 ACP is a rimless cartridge originally designed for the Colt Model 1911 semi-automatic pistol to have similar characteristics to the .45 Colt

You can buy water filter systems. Sold in sporting goods stores. You could boil the water. UV light pens are another method. Taste? Likely still will have a chlorine taste.
Edit: The .45 Automatic Colt Pistol was designed for use in the Colt 1911 auto loading pistol. Since WW1 it has been used in revolvers through the use of clips to add a rim for extraction. This use led to a brother cartridge the .45auto rim. The .45 Long Colt is a revolver round designed for the 1873 Colt Peacemaker revolver.

Well dang, or is it premier, maybe shooter.... you could boil the water, or run it through an osmosis filter, or a charcoal filter, or a ceramic filter. It would taste like water.
the difference between 45acp and 45 colt, is one is an acp, the other is colt.

Pool water has chlorine in it eAe
If you drink too much you'll die
And why drink pool water if it's been swam in...?
If u want water to drink u need to like in the country and find an aquifer. Look it up before assumptionSource(s): Science class
