Bloodwork done for immunity ?
How does blood work determine immunity against measles, mumps, rubella, and chicken pox ? I am just curious because I had a physical today and bloodwork had to be done to see if I was immune to these diseases for the sake of me entering the hospital setting for work. I am sure nothing in my blood jumps out and says " Hey I was immunized for this disease on such and such a date " In this case are they looking for my immunity to it or trace of the vaccine in my blood ?

After immunization, or infection, the body develops antibodies to the disease. The antibodies that provide long-term immunity are called IgG antibodies. The doctor will check for measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella IgG levels. Levels above a certain amount will indicate immunity.
