Assuming she was dropped from a height of 290 m and that Superman can accelerate straight upward at 13.0 m/s^2, determine how far Lois falls before he catches her.

    Lois accelerates downwards at 9.8 m/s, while Superman accelerates upwards at 13 m/s.

    Since they both start with speed 0, at any time t they have covered distances of 4.9t^2 and 6.5t^2.

    That means for every 4.9 feet Lois falls, Superman rises 6.5 feet. She falls 4.9/(4.9+6.5) = 43% of the total distance while he rises 57% of the distance.

    Knowing the distance, use d = 1/2 a t^2 to figure out the time. You can use either character's distance and acceleration.

    Then use v = at to figure out their speeds.
