What piano music is copyright/royalty free?

I am looking for a short piece of piano music to use in a video, but it needs to be royalty free. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Any of the Beethoven Ecossaises are royalty free.

But you have to play it yourself, because if you use someone else's recording, then you owe THEM royalties. That's why I'm suggesting the Ecossaises. They should be simple enough that anyone who can halfway play piano can do well enough with those.

Or have a computer play them. With a good enough piano sample, like that in Finale 2012 with Garritan, no one will be able to tell.

Remember that, although much classical music is not copyrighted, most recording available today ARE. Recordings have their own copyright separate from any that the music being performed may or may not have. This is to protect the rights of the performers and recording companies responsible for the recording's existence.

So, if you are planning to use a RECORDING for your video, it MUST be more than 50 years old. If you are playing the music yourself, you can use any music where the composer has been dead for more than 70 years.

Many people who want to learn to play the piano are put off by the idea of spending long, boring hours learning music notes. If you are serious about learning to play the piano, the first thing you will need to do is put those negative thoughts behind and start with an open mind. Read here https://tr.im/PianoLessons

It does take time and yes, you have to learn the music notes, but it does not have to be boring, and it certainly does not have to take forever before you learn to play on your own. Follow these seven steps carefully, and you’ll be playing your first songs independently in a very short time.

I the composer has been dead for more than 70 years then you can obtain the sheet music for free and play it yourself. However if you want to use someone else's performance of a piece, then the recording has to have been made more than 50 years ago. Otherwise it is an infringement of copyright.
