We've all heard of Black Hispanics & White Hispanics & Multiracial Hispanic (Usually Of Spanish,African & Native blood) Some people argue that Indigenous people are not Hispanic. Hispanic really is a delusional word termed by Nixon, relating to linguistic and culture. This is where people in great numbers get muddled up, thinking it were a race.

Just like American is a nationality, so is Cuba, Mexico, or any other hispanic american country. With that there are numbers of races within each of these countries. Many people think hispanic is a race due to the influx of many Mexican and central american immigrants that tend to look on the mestizo side or on the east coast of the US to look biracial black and white due to the Puerto Rican, Dominican contribution, but with that said again you can look like anybody to be one of these nationalities listed, its the common belief of that particular look.

But with those that are fully indigenous in latin america, such as majority of the population to be this race, in Guatemala, Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador, I see them really as Indigenous or native americans. Why native American? Many people only think that native american is just within the US boundaries. So technically the US in north america as you have central and south america aka 'The Americas'.

On addition their language was bastardised by the Spanish, as the word Hispanic derives from Hispania, the shared countries of Spain and Portugal, the peninsula. But now since many speak spanish and one that is of indigenous descent, can be referred to as Hispanic indian. But keep in mind that Quecha, or Guarani is still spoken by a very large number in some of these south american countries. I think in Bolivia that Spanish is just a co-official language.

Mostly not, I'm one of those people who argue Indigenous people of Mexico and Central America are NOT or at least not necessarily Hispanic. Most Hispanic people are not Indigenous, and most Indigenous people I do not consider Hispanic and do not speak Spanish as a first language (many in Guatemala and Belize do not even speak it as a second). It's not about race...if it was then Mestizos would be considered Indigenous. Only native Spanish speakers are Hispanic, imo. Speaking Spanish as a second language does not make you Hispanic, many Americans can speak Spanish as a second language but wouldn't be considered Hispanic. What definition are you using? In Mexico, the government identify people as Indigenous because their language, if that's gone then they are no more Indigenous.

I'm Mayan, I wouldn't really consider your friend Indigenous if he can't speak the language and identify as Hispanic, tho he is from Indigenous people like the mixtec (so he is indigenous, and Hispanic). But he is more of a mestizo than Indigenous, it seems (he can't speak the language). It is kind of strange to identify as Mixtec and not be able to speak the mixtec language, doncha think? In Southern Mexico (Chiapas) and Guatemala (where you will find most real Indigenous people who speak their language natively and many speak Spanish as a third language), Ladinos (non Indigenous people, and Spanish speaking Indians who abandoned their people) are associated with Latino/Hispanic-ism.

Once they lose the language, it's gone. They're not really "Indigenous" anymore. They can look straight out Indian, but that does not mean Indigenous imo (which is not about race). When I mean Indigenous I'm talking about culture and world views (a true legacy of the original people). Indigenous people have a different culture from the Hispanic mainstream culture.

Those Indigenous people would be more similar to Native Americans. They would not be officially Hispanic, however they could still be considered Latin Americans of the Americas, just as a Native American is still considered an American. The term Hispanic is technically used for the Caribbean, such as Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Cuba etc. because the Spanish Caribbean was known as Hispaniola and not the Americas. Since most Indigenous people are from the Americas, I think they would be more acceptable to Latino/Latina and not Hispanic.

While the two terms are sometimes used interchangeably, "Hispanic" is a narrower term which only refers to persons of Spanish-speaking origin or ancestry, while "Latino" is more frequently used to refer more generally to anyone of Latin American origin or ancestry, including Brazilians.

Hispanic is not a race, it is the way Americans called all people who speak Spanish. So there are Hispanics who are white, mestizo, black and even Asian and also, of course,Indigenous. Mexico is one of the most mestizos countries, and there are mestizos who look white and some look indigenous. Countries like Guatemala, Peru and Bolivia have a huge percentage of indigenous people (not mixed), and Argentina & Uruguay have a huge percentage of whites, basically because they wiped out all of the indigenous population.

Yes actually some indigenous Mexicans in Mexico don't even know Spanish maybe a couple words. And they live in villages with their own customs.

Yes i know that but the real indigenous people live in town villages in Mexico some move to cities!
I lived in Mexico before and I have gone to Maya villages.

Here in the Americas, the term "Hispanic" is a cultural term, so anybody from any race of Latin American origin can describe himself or herself as Hispanic. Since Whites and Blacks can be culturally Hispanic, Native Americans can also be culturally Hispanic as well.

My Mother is Zapotec from Guerrero. My Father is Chichimeca Jonaz from Guanajuato. I'm from Guanajuato. My parents spoke two different dialects so they just thought it would be easier to just teach my Spanish. They struggled to learn Spanish.

My ancestor come from France 1500 and Spain 1550. I have a French name my mothers name is Spanish. My Dna Says I am 51 percent Native American. 39 percent European...the rest is North African, Irish and British at appx 6 percent each plus or minus some. Your answer is here if you can find it.

It's acculturation, it's like any other color who is here, but an American. Hispanic is a culture.
