Instead of "honoring diversity", shouldn't we embrace those things that make us similar?

Isn't the liberal ideal of "honoring diversity" really just pointing out the things in each other that make us different?

"Honoring diversity" should teach us tolerance for each other no matter our differences. Our way is not necessarily right, nor someone else's wrong.

I agree that "honoring diversity" does point out the things that make us different and "different" is not an evil word. Diversity in most areas can
be a strong cementing factor provided that the base lines are not different. Diversity must always be taken in context not a blanket statement.

There is value in doing BOTH. Things that are common to us all can bind us together as a human family. That ideal is lost only on people who want to hate, eliminate or invalidate part of that human family.
Honoring diversity is actually intelligent because everyone brings something different to the table. When diversity is fully appreciated, it makes the whole STRONGER because all parts of the puzzle are represented. Then there is no weakness in our collective armor.

both are important... but human nature usually "embraces things that make us similar"

and humans often "mock" what is different... or fear it...

honoring diversity means you don't have to be afraid or hate what is different...

most people are already comfortable embracing things that are the same... there's no need to point it out or focus on it...
