Major music icons by decade?

Starting from the 1900's, can you list major music icons per decade?

Like, in the 60's there was The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, The Who, etc.

In the 70's there was the Jackson 5, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, etc.

Please cover EVERY decade and list as many music icons as you can!

Thanks in advance!

And yes, I want long lists.

Update:

okay, I need AT LEAST 10 musicians per decade!

this is for a school project!

I agree with #1 'cept Jimi Hendrix should be in there too.

and whether we like it or not Britney spears should be included in the 00's

    edit: since you need more.

James brown 70s (late 60s too)

Rick James (late 70s and 80's)

Queen (70s-80s, huge by the 80s though)

    Donna Summers 70s (disco)

    Marvin Gaye 60s

    Aretha Franklin 60s

Stevie Wonder popular in 60s but probably moreso in 70s
