Is Multiculturalism good or bad for Britain?

Why?
haven't we been multicultural since the romans, but just have very strict rules on who can join the 'tophat club'?

Britain has been multicultural since the Celts took over. Its just that its also been extremely racist against anyone not of Anglo-Saxon-Norman heritage. from an American stand point i was blown away when I lived there when someone who was "English" told me someone was "not the type of person to be seen with" because they were Scottish. I'm responded "He is white with blond hair and blue eyes! We call that a 'take 'em home to Momma so she doesnt see you are really seeing' back home".

Its a weird cultural dichotomy that has no basis in reality and is mostly represented by people who are scared of others.

We are just as multicultural in the US, but you wouldnt know it by watching scared white people on Fox NEws.

Britain in ancient and early times was not multi-cultural in the modern sense. It consisted of various tribes/groups moving in from other parts of Europe (the Romans had a few non-Europeans in their army but relatively few, they were not mass settlers in Britain anyway.) Languages changed and evolved,traditions changed or were added to, but the groups eventually blended together, forming the basis of modern British culture, with its regional variants, of course.
Basically, modern multiculturalism does not mean all groups living together and eventually blending, but all groups retaining their identity and cultural traditions and actually keeping them seperate and apart, hence often forming ghettoes and other no-go areas. It is deemed a failure because it many cases it actually has caused division rather than understanding.

There are strong arguments both ways.

As an American who shares the same Christian heritage as the Brits, I believe multiculturalism is breaking down long held traditions and beliefs that are causing our children, politicians, and institutions to go astray, and our Biblical and national heritage is watered down to the point we don't even know who we are now, or where we came from, or where we're going.
