HELP!!! Simplify. Assume that the variable repesents a nonzero real number.?

-40x^5 / 8x^9

    You know what 40 divided by 8 is, right? So that takes care of the numbers.

    As for the x's, use the rules of exponents. x^a/x^b = x^(a - b).

    Or just write x^9 as x^(5 + 4) = x^5 * x^4 and see if that gives you an idea.
