I made 2 incorrect predictions and now everyone wants to suddenly crucify me? Lol.
Congrats to Caroline for winning this, she did play really well. Serve was spot on, that was one of her best matches ever, if not the single best match. I didn't expect her to win, especially after being in a big slump for the last 9-10 months, but well done.
I don't know what to think about this match. Yeah Caro was exceptionally well today, this is probably the biggest win of her career and she played her first good match since IW last year. But honestly, this was on Serena's racquet completely. It's her own fault that she lost this, she was so bad, I have no words...Her movement was dreadful, she made tons of errors and her fighting spirit was gone until the very end. Serena's serve was a major issue, she didn't serve nearly as well as she did against Stosur and she underestimated Wozniacki(as well as me) and that, as Oin said was the key to losing this match.
I can't say I'm not disappointed, I really wish she would have won here, but at least this loss will lower me down on the ground for a while and at least I know where Serena's level is at. She still has a long way to go if she wants to get back at the top of her game. The problem with her seems motivation. She is looking really fit, but she really has off days where anyone can blow her off the court. She is more prone to errors than before, her statistics in this match were shocking to say the least.
When she is motivated she can really beat anyone on the tour and she showed that in Summer when she beat Azarenka(twice), Wozniacki, Sharapova, Stosur and other good players too. I really hope she snaps out of this because her 2012 has not started well. But we still have a long way to go- FO, Wimbledon, Olympics and the US Open.
The positives she can take from this tournament is that she got her revenge for the USO loss to Stosur and is back in the Top 10 again!
BQ:Anything could happen, but it's not very likely. Beating Floprena doesn't guarantee you a win in Miami! It will be a toss up versus Sharapova, but I believe she is the favorite since Sharapova is playing atrocious at the moment. She beat Li mostly because of Li's errors(41 errors to Maria's 18). If she plays like she did today then she can easily win like in IW last year. But if she plays average, Sharapova will find a way to fight off the victory. We'll see what happens.
