Cross reference Matthew 24-27 with verse Luke 8:4-15 to get a clear understanding of the parable.
Luke 8:4-5 While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: “A farmer went out to sow his seed." (Luke 8:11 The seed is the word of God). As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the air ate it up. (Luke 8:12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved). Luke 8:6-7 Some fell on rock, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. (Luke 8:13 Those on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away). Luke 8:8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown. (Luke 8:15 But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop).
Matthew 7:18-19 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. READ: John 15:1-17 for clarification of God's teachings about producing fruit.
Romans 2:7-8 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.
Romans 2:12-13 All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin
under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous.
