While this age old argument is moot as all instrumentals are hard to play. The Horn is technically harder to become proficient at.
To produce the best sound and musicality both Horn and Oboe requires a meticulous ability to control the air stream. However a Horn player also must learn to control their embouchure and while this is true for oboe as well its a little easier because the reed is doing the vibration while for the Hornist the air passing between the vibrating lips produces the sound so you control both. Also an Oboe uses keys to produce the various notes while a horn player must use their embouchure and air stream to produce the correct pitches.

I have no idea that any software, finally, is fairly "toughest" to play. Certainly, the emboucher for the oboe is intricate, and within the opening, it is difficult to get a tight sound out of it. It's nigh inconceivable to march with one considering it is so intricate to preserve the right emboucher with a double-reed at the same time jogging. Still, as soon as you may have built right procedure, the truly trouble is available in finding out MUSIC. There are peices of song that may be performed really without problems via a well oboe participant that could be practically inconceivable with a keyless software, similar to a recorder or keyless flute. Add the trill keys, and you may have long gone an additional step absolutely. I suppose that the fundamentals of an software is also extra or simpler than others, however as soon as you may have reached a distinct degree of competence with that software, the leisure is musicianship. That stated, opening oboe avid gamers are first-rate with duck calls. :-)

They are both difficult. Think of it this way.... which is harder.... tennis or football? It really depends on your body type. On the other hand the two instruments can be harder for some people than others. A great ear is required for horn and great coordination for oboe, so harder depends on the players skill sets.
What is hardest for one person may not be so for the person sitting beside them.Source(s): 50 years behind a mouthpiece
