What causes corruption?

It's the most widespread disease in humanity.

Is greed the cause of corruption? I would like opinions on this philosophical topic.

Is corruption inevitable in a human being? Can one overcome the feelings of greed and regards for their own welfare? Are people inherently evil?

    I would agree that selfish greed is the primary motivator for corruption.

    Not all humans are corrupt. However, the higher in prestige, power, and wealth one rises, the greater the tendency toward corruption seems to be. Still, there are exceptions.

    Regarding your own welfare as top priority is not necessarily bad. It's called the survival instinct. You can only help another from a position of strength. How can you save a drowning man if you are drowning yourself? Where this instinct becomes destructive is when the "welfare" of one comes at the expense of another.

    People are multi-faceted. Medical science views multiple personalities as an anomaly, but we all have them. It's just that those who show more than one personality at a time are considered "in need of treatment". In each of us, some personalities are benevolent, others are malicious. It just depends on which one is doing the driving.

    What causes corruption?

    ~~~ Weeds of corruption grow in sinfully prideful soil!
    It's the most widespread disease in humanity.
    ~~~ I guess that depends on how much you pridefully judge that which Is! Can it not be a symptom of that 'disease' to define it as a 'disease'? To judge it as not good enough, not 'right'... Is that not Pride also? Is that not also corrupt?

    Is greed the cause of corruption? I would like opinions on this philosophical topic.

    ~~~ Greed appears as a symptom of (prideful) corruption.
    Things aren't 'caused', they 'appear'!
    Is corruption inevitable in a human being?
    ~~~ Not at all!

    Without living the sin of pride, there is no corruption!

    Think 'humble' (virtues)!

    "Charity is simply not taking more than your share!"

    Can one overcome the feelings of greed and regards for their own welfare? Are people inherently evil?

    ~~~ Know ThySelf!
    We Are All
    One Omni- 'Self!'!
    "Do NOT do to 'others' what you don't want done to you!"
    (EVERYTHING in the Universe, ALL INCLUSIVE, is 'others'!!!)
    Understand that;
    "The acceptance and understanding of other Perspectives furthers our acquaintance with Reality!"
    and always remember that;
    "Charity is simply not taking more than your share!"
    ... and you'll always be fine!
    Improper and usually unlawful conduct intended to secure a benefit for oneself or another. Its forms include bribery, extortion, and the misuse of inside information. It exists where there is community indifference or a lack of enforcement policies. In societies with a culture of ritualized gift giving, the line between acceptable and unacceptable gifts is often hard to draw.
