Did JBL actually passed the torch to John Cena at wrestlemania 21?

In a way. It was an epic match that really entrenched and established John Cena as the next big thing in the WWE. Brock Lesnar was gone by that point and JBL sort of took over from him on an interim basis as the top heel in the company. I think ultimately Cena inherited Lesnar's role as "The Man" in the WWE, but it was passed onto him by JBL.
When you think about it, Cena has really been the man ever since. If you can point to one match, just one, that truly got him over as the superstar he is, I think that was it. That was the start of the ride for Cena, and it continues today. JBL was the champion on Smackdown for a long, long time. He was the leader of a big-time heel stable and he was the top villain the WWE had. Cena had had big-time feuds with big names before, like Lesnar, but it was with JBL as his opponent that he really made his mark. That Wrestlemania match, and his title defense against JBL the next month at Backlash, really got him over as the top champion in the entire wrestling business.
