I am sometimes scared of dying. Usually it's when im driving at high speeds like 50+mph. Especially on a highway where cars fly past each other in opposite directions. All it takes is a few feet to the left for it to become a headon collision, which usually results in death. Im not scared of growing old. In a way, im sort of looking forward to it.
Since you're talking about God i guess i'll also chip in on that subject. I was raised lutheran, but i eventually stopped having faith mostly because i started questioning everything and actually reading the bible. After seriously reading it, i found so many things that either didn't make sense or i simply didn't agree with. I dont let the scare tactic that is "hell" have an effect on what i believe. Some people like to use this line of reasoning: "why not believe in god? If he exists, then christians go to heaven and everyone else to hell. If he doesn't and atheists are correct, then nothing happens to any of us." there are two problems with that...one is that it overlooks other possibilities. What if an entirely different god exists and allows atheists to experience eternal paridise for rejecting all of the false gods and everyone else who was worshipping false gods were sent to eternal damnation. In this case, you would be better off not believing in any god at all.
Another problem with this is the idea of "simply believing" in something just because it beats one other possible alternative, rather than truly believing with all of your heart and soul.. An all knowing god would be able to see through this and then not allow you into eternal salvation.
