Hey, hey! My personal favourite depictions of people in real life on film: Marion Cotillard's Edit Piaf, Sean Penn's Harvey Milk, Sir Ben Kingsley's Gandhi and Daniel Day-Lewis's Christy Brown. I'd include (except Marion, you already have her there) in your list. :) But Oskar Schindler and Jake LaMotta should be there too.
(if I omit it's because I haven't seen the movie)
Actors:
Gary Oldman – Sid Vicious (Sid and Nancy)
Joaquin Phoenix – Johnny Cash (Walk the Line)
Jamie Foxx – Ray Charles (Ray)
Lou Diamond Phillips – Ritchie Valens (La Bamba)
Actress:
Marion Cotillard – Edith Piaf (La vie en rose)
Reese Witherspoon – June Carter (Walk the Line)
BA: already did. If I included my fav performances in the list above it'd look pretty different.
Daniel-Day Lewis's fierce determination and dedication in playing a cerebral palsy-wracked man with just one limb to control... in One Left Foot- I can't imagine anyone not being in complete awe of his presence in that movie. Gotta say though De Niro comes pretty darn close as well. In terms of dedication Lewis went further.
