2003 BMW X5 4.4i Does not Crank from Ignition key?
2003 BMW X5 4.4i Did not start after 8 hours of being parked. When I jump started the starter wires with a screwdriver with ignition open then it started, but will not crank/start directly from ignition even though i tried my other key. Please advice, thank you

This sounds like an EWS issue- which is normally caused by a faulty key. Since the spare key exhibits the same issue that pretty much rules out a defective key. Since it starts when you jump the starter solenoid- the leaves only the starting system from the key to the starter (through the EWS module). The EWS (anti-theft) module has to be calibrated with the engine computer (DME) and trans computer (EGS). It sounds like either the calibration has been lost, or one of those modules is failing. Either way- diagnosis will require BMW diagnostic equipment- whether at the dealer of a very well equipped independent shop. (check www.BIMRS.com for an indy shop).Source(s): BMW level 1 tech / foreman
