Have you tried Darren Shan's The Demonata series if you liked his Cirque du Freak books? Also, you might like Stephen King's Dark Tower series. I think the first book is The Gunslinger. King's story The Green Mile was first distributed as a series of short novellas, but I think it's combined into one book now. Still, a great story.
