do we know if the Occupy Wall Street movement was ALSO nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize?

Remember Bradley Manning? The gay Army private who downloaded thousands of classified military documents to cds he labeled "Lady Gaga" and then gave them to WikiLeaks, who then published the secrets for the world to see? Well apparently the committee that selects Nobel Peace Prize winners, things Manning deserves a trophy for betraying his country.

The Nobel Peace Prize jury has received 231 nominations for this year’s award, a spokesman said, with publicly disclosed candidates including a former Ukrainian prime minister and the U.S. soldier accused of leaking classified material to WikiLeaks.

The secretive committee doesn’t reveal who has been nominated, but those with nomination rights sometimes announce their picks.

Names put forward this year include Bradley Manning, the U.S. Army private charged with the biggest leak of classified information in U.S. history, Russian human rights activist Svetlana Gannushkina and former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko

First, from the article that you quoted: "Being nominated doesn’t say anything about a candidate’s chances. A wide range of submissions come in every year from lawmakers, university professors and others with nomination rights, but the decision rests solely with a five-member panel appointed by Norway’s parliament."

Second, other than someone leaking this information, no way to actually know who was on the nomination list.

Third, while teams can be nominated, actual names have to be used. OWS is not a team and its "members" cannot be named. If anything, a specific subset of people involved would be named.

I remembered the time when Barack Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize. They probably hate him now for starting more wars.

If Obama can get one, only having been in office 6 months and a terrorist leader can get one, OWS is probably a shoo-in.

merely because of the fact a petition has been started out does no longer recommend it's going to come to something. The Nobel board are no longer likely to interrupt the prize regulations that have been set down by skill of Alfred Nobel himself, it merely can no longer take place. and much less for Michael Jackson who replaced into never politically lively and did no longer something for international peace different than take section in some charity events and usa for Africa album extra effective than 20 years in the past. i would not nominate any ineffective person as that's a pointless exercising. I trust the quicker answer which places the residing first.
