I've never heard of a Genius that was Christian?

From 1940 to now.

Now I know some will say, But what about Gauss? But what about Newton?

If we go back further, we will find many. But does anyone know of anyone that is considered Genius and has a deep religious belief during our time?

No? Ever heard of one?

I guess you could say Chris Langan. But I don't believe Wikipedia in this case, his theory of everything seems to contradict "Quotes" on Wikipedia.

Update 2:

God is my salvation...... Name one.

Update 3:

I said 1940 to NOW!

Update 4:

Ah yes. Old Dirty bastard. I didn't like his verses when rapping with the Wutang. GZA, RZA and inspectah Deck were the best.

Update 5:

Alan, His wikipedia page has quotes saying he rejects intelligent design.....

List of Christian thinkers in Science...

Then, if you wish to consider those who have been awareded Nobel Prizes as at least POTENTIAL geniuses... you have:

Alexander Fleming: Discovered penicillin. Was buried at St. Paul's Cathedral. Can't be buried in a Cathedral without being Christian.

Ernest Thomas Sinton Walton (6 October 1903 – 25 June 1995) was an Irish physicist and Nobel laureate, the first person in history to artificially split the atom. Was a professor at Trinity College in Dublin. Trinity? Christian?

Albert Schweitzer: theologian, organist, philosopher, physician, and medical missionary. Genius HAS to be in there SOMEWHERE.

Winston Churchill: Well? He was a genius for sure, not just a political leader. He was an Anglican.

Martin Luther King, Jr.: Okay, try that one on for size.

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn: Christian, most certainly a genius!

I really don't have the TIME to go on... this is merely to prove your contention incorrect.

"I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.” Luke 15:7

In all time scientists and philosophers where initiated to the wisdom of God and they studied the base of religion, the Gnosis of the Kabbalah. The Kabbalah is the base of human philosophy and those teachings where in all times the ennemy of all cults, since knowing the real content of the Holly Scriptures could endanger the dogma of cults. This dogma is what enslaves and endoctrinates people and leads them to fanatism and violence. Church has burned on stake all scientists and philosophers during more than 1600 years and this is one major reason why you do not find many genious in the christian world but almost all in jewish culture. Kabbalah is the jewish mystic esoteric teaching and it lets you discover the foundation of all the science of the universe.

The readings and philosophy of freemasonry is Kabbalah and this philosophy can be used or miss-used. Warning the humans from the evil that he can encounter and will destroy him can also serve as a lesson to miss-use this evil powers and that is just what the world powers do. Kabbalah is the teaching of Good and Bad and how both work and interact and it can be a teaching of God as well as it can be the one of Satan.

Note that Jews are among those who have earned the biggest amount of Nobelprizes in the last 50 years. One can not say that much from Muslims. On the other side, diasporic Jews are at the base of just any conflict and conspiracy that has ever happened, including the slavery of money and banking.

No, i am not anti semitic, I am Jew. Just for those who might think so.

  • Monsignor Georges Henri Joseph Édouard Lemaître, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georges_Lemaître the man that developed the Theory of the Big Bang, was not just a Christian but, as I said, a Monsignor. He died in 1966.

I'm not just an Atheist, I'm an outspoken Anti-Theist that believes that Theism has done nothing but harm to our species and should be eliminated and treated as the documented mental illness that it is but to say that there are no Genius Christians or Christians that have made profound discoveries since the 1940's is truly truly ignorant.

George Washington Carver http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Washington_Car... was also a Christian, uber genius, and I think he died in 1943.

Max Planck, who died in 1947, made many contributions to physics, but is best known for quantum theory, which revolutionized our understanding of the atomic and sub-atomic worlds. In his 1937 lecture "Religion and Naturwissenschaft," Planck expressed the view that God is everywhere present, and held that "the holiness of the unintelligible Godhead is conveyed by the holiness of symbols."

By and large, people that are smart enough to be in the "Genius" category don't announce their theistic beliefs... It isn't a part of their research so they don't talk about it in their peer reviewed publications.

As I said... I see Theism as a plague on our species... But the same way that Schizophrenia and Autism don't always work against intelligence, the Mental Illness of theism doesn't always destroy the ability to perceive reality and work within its confines... Especially in the Mathematical and Medical Sciences.

BTW, I test out at 122 IQ, making me a "Very Superior Intelligence", but that's too subjective a term.

p.s. What does Intelligent Design have to do with Christianity? Again, your ignorance is astounding. Acceptance of Evolution has nothing to do with Theism... Theists of all ilk can accept the reality of Evolution, only the mentally ill reject it out of hand.

Interesting question. Let's see what answers come up, but you'll have to google the replies to be sure the people mentioned were in fact Christian and Geniuses.

Actually, I can think of one - Bobby Fisher - but he was a true nutcase.

Re Chris Langang: --- Langan has argued elsewhere that he does not belong to any religious denomination, explaining that he "can't afford to let [his] logical approach to theology be prejudiced by religious dogma." He calls himself "a respecter of all faiths, among peoples everywhere."

MArcus - how many people on your list were born after 1940 like the question specifies?

Jimmy Neutron, Bob who works at the The Genius Bar for Apple, and of course who can ever forget Russell Tyrone Jones (November 15, 1968 – November 13, 2004)[1] was an American rapper and occasional producer, who went by the stage name Ol' Dirty Bastard or simply ODB. I love that guy.

Genius: an exceptional natural capacity of intellect, especially as shown in creative and original work in science…

Francis Collins (1950 - ), to name only one of many!

Isocrates Tesla - where did I say Francis Collins accepts intelligent design? Furthermore, rejecting intelligent design is in no respect the same as rejecting Christianity. Collins position is called biologos, you can see what he has to say for himself concerning the relationship between Christianity and science here: http://biologos.org/ His position is most closely related to theistic evolution - the majority Christian position which also rejects intelligent design.
