Was Nelson Mandela a risk taker?? why?

Can you tell me if through his life Nelson Mandela was a big risk taker and what made him a risk taker....thanks!!!

    Yes, I would say Nelson Mandela was a risk taker. As a young man he took actions that risked arrest and that risk resulted in 27 years in prison in South Africa. At an age when most people are retired or dead he risked running for office and was elected president of his country at the age of 76. He also risked three marriages, but that's another story.

    He spent many many years in prison for a principle, if that is risk then yes he was.
