And Rolling Stones rated Whitney Houston as #34???? Whitney should be in the top 10. Aretha is a very good singer but not the best of the rest. There are many others in that 100 list that I would list as #1 before Aretha Franklin.

Well, Cohen's more of a songwriter than a singer, however, the same could be said about Bob Dylan and he's listed as #7! Cohen wrote beautiful songs but his singing voice is a-tonal. He doesn't carry a tune very well. Again, the same thing could be said about Bob Dylan. I usually ignore these lists... they're put together by people who really shouldn't have a vote in such things. Your favorite is your favorite. No one else's opinions should sway you.

AND WHERE THE HELL IS BILLY JOEL?????

Rolling Stone magazine are complete morons. They've held a 40 year grudge against Queen/Freddie Mercury. On the Rolling Stone wiki page, it's even mentioned how they've been criticized for dismissing Queen (as well as other bands and singers) . It's commonly known.

Freddie Mercury should have been number one there like he is in other polls.

Here he is number 1 - 100 Greatest rock singers http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_vocalis...

Here also, an online poll. http://www.skiddle.com/news/all/Freddie-Mercury-ha...

There's plenty of other polls where he is number 1 (or at least number 2)

He had over a 4 octave range (wiki) - and the sound of his voice beats all the rest hands down. That's why he often wins polls - but not with Rolling Stone magazine - they harbour their grudge. That magazine is only good for nothing.

Not many of those singers could sing funk, rock, pop, heavy, ragtime, gospel, ballads, anthems AND release an opera album! Actually, none of them I think apart from him.

I'm not saying this to be funny, but I really don't know who Leonard Cohen is. Never heard of him. I not only know everyone on the list, but I could name at least a few of each of their songs. Rolling Stone did a great job at summing up all the great artists of our time.

This is all someone else's opinion,

so it's not necessarily true. It's not

like the people of the world voted for

    this to be this way.

And what the folks at Rolling Stone "100 greatest singers of all time" understand music?

They work for record companies, are employed and will write what the boss tells you.

The explorers of the recording industry and entertainment will never admit that MICHAEL JACKSON was the most complete artist that existed in the last millennium.

    MICHAEL JACKSON THE NUMBER ONE!
