can I use avast and microsoft security essentials together?

    If you feel they are both so poor you need another to back it up, why have either?

    no, on windows, only one antivirus programs are able to run at a time, sometimes two may run at the same time but they will clash and will cause problems, so the short answer is no, one at a time is recommended

    no need to do and that won't increase your protection,only use one paid antivirus to get full protection while free only provide basic protection.

    try Eset Nod32.
