Catholic Priest- Parishioner confidentiality question?

If you confess to a priest that you plan on hurting yourself, is the priest obligated to keep that confidential? Or will he report it if he believes you are being serious? Thanks.

A Catholic Priest will (or should) not 'report' any information disclosed to him, however he will want to help you out. He doesn't necessarily have to tell anyone else, but he will probably want to talk with you about whats been going on, and see if you need any other help. Priests are there to help, as well as forgive you for your sins.

    Hope that makes sense!

if you are a minor the priest has a duty to report to civic authority. If you're an adult, not so much.

In any case the priest would find a way to get you the counseling / help you need. Interesting answer from the Msulim POV - the priest would support your suicide mission. Was that a troll?

God does not require you to confess to a priest.

1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

The priest can never divulge what was revealed to him in confession. However this wouldn't stop him from proactively trying to get the person help. He can do this without revealing what was said.
