    ok given the mass number

Mass number = number of protons + neutrons (( together ))

Since it's Magnesium , the Atomic number is 12 (( from periodic table ))

and Atomic number = number of protons = 12 Protons

    so number of Neutrons = mass number - atomic number = 25 - 12 = 13 Neutrons

    since Electron config is 2 , 8

this means that the number of electrons is 10

    knowing that protons = 12

then the Magnesium has 2 more protons than electrons

this means the charge of ion is 2+

    Mg2+ (( Symbol of Magnesium Ion ))
