Why is having a sense of humor important when it comes to teaching?

It makes a relaxed environment, and the students will be more comfortable.

In my experience, having a funny teacher meant a fun, laidback class and I was willing to learn and do the work.

When a teacher had no humour, I wouldn't pay an ounce of attention and just counted down until it was over.

A fun and relaxed atmosphere is more conducive to learning. Facts associated with silly or humorous things are also better remembered.

The opposite of "grin and bear it", it keeps you on the up side of things.
