A great many countries are very involved with Bermuda.
To promote its economic interests abroad Bermuda maintains representative offices in key influential cities such as London, Paris and Washington D.C..etc
Historically, Bermuda's location has made it the site of many past summit conferences.
Most recently since WWI Bermuda has hosted summit conferences pertaining to the Suez Canal Crisis in 1956 -- besides the UK, the US, France, Egypt, and Israel were involved.
Also during the Arab-Israeli wars of 1967 and 1973.
On 11 June 2009, four Uyghurs who had been held in extrajudicial detention in the United States Guantanamo Bay detention camp, in Cuba were deported to Bermuda.
The four men were among 22 Uyghurs who claimed to be refugees, who were captured in 2001 in Pakistan after fleeing the American aerial bombardment of Afghanistan.
Bermuda became an associate member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in 2003 .
