Check to see if there is a function lock on or something, some laptops without number pads on the side allow you to use the regular keys for a number pad using a function key. Are the numbers you are typing small and colored on the keys?

If not, for windows 7, go to control panel, go to region and language, and go to keyboard, click change keyboard and make sure it is set to the correct region.

check the upper right of your keyboard.

If there is a number lit your number Lock is on.

The NumLock is usually in the upper right area of the keyboard.

Press it once, then try typing.

Sounds like you went on the wrong internet site and picked up a bug. I would have a good tech look at it and get advice on how to avoid malware.
