How long to get a passport?
I am looking into getting a passport for spring break (March 9th) and was wondering about how long it usually takes, or if there is a way you can pay to get it faster (and how much that might cost). I would just call the post office but its Sunday and I'm impatient...

Hi
My daughter just went thru the process and it only took 4 weeks.
Here is all the information that you need:
http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/
There is also a link to check the status. You will know what is going on every step of the way.
You do have to call your post office and make an appointment to turn in the application but it only takes a few minutes. My daughter was also able to do the picture there too.
And yes, you can pay to have it expedited.
There is a space on the application that asks when your travel dates are and I think they try to abide by that date.
Good Luck!

It takes 6-8 weeks according to the official website, but the site says you can pay extra to get it sooner. There is a helpful walk through at http://rickcombe.hubpages.com/hub/A-beginners-guid... that also has a link to the Department of State's passport website.
If you are planning to leave March 9th you need to get started as soon as possible.
