Confused about a potential relationship?

We have recently started hanging out, have a lot of fun together and i could definitely see it progressing and lasting. I really do like him but told him i don't want to rush anything (becoming official) because it hasn't been that long. I don't want to force a relationship by making it happen to quickly, but i feel like he thinks i meant it in way to end things and turn him off... Do you think i insulted him by saying that? What do i do!
