The military is in fact a totalitarian entity. Men were not given the opportunity to make a choice if they wanted to be on the opposite side of that metal ramp on the Higgins landing craft.... MG-42 rounds hammering that ramp and then it dropped. There was no encounter group to find out how they would feel when rounds tore their bodies to pieces.

So, no. the military is not socialism. It does not manufacture anything, they do own the tools of war and the men who will die.
