A few things can be causing this, viruses, lots of old junk files, computer needs more memory, also some updates cause this problem.

You can try running a complete antivirus scan [try using Dr. webs online scan]

Defrag you computer,clean up old files etc.[ use ccleaner]

or just go to system tools and use disc clean up.

Check device manager to see if everything is ok with pcs components,etc memory.Additionaly if your pc is a 32 bit system and has only two gb memory you may want to add another two gb[same type],if its a 64 bit system it can hold up to 8gb memory.

run a complete scan of your computer

download ccleaner and delete all temporary data and fix registry errors

did you make any recent changes or installed new programs if yes try a system restore to the time your pc was working properly.

uninstall any unwanted programs

try running your computer in safe mode

if this all does not help than try formatting the harddrive and reinstall your operating system.

several things you can do remove programs you dont use,defrag,use a good registry cleaner

clean history,switch to a better browser if you are using ie, here is what i use

browser,mozilla firefox

anti-virus,avast

firewall,private firewall

reg.cleaner,auslogics

defragger,smart defrag

uninstaller,revo

superantispyware & malwarebytes all free stuff

i do not have virus,spyware or malware problems

a good place to go for free stuff is "gizmos freeware"
