What are my best options? Cloud computing-External Memory-External drive?

I would like to load numerous chess programs & chess databases my computer. I need these programs to run as if they are on my hard drive, but with the ability to interact with huge game databases. Right now, if I try to load all this on my home computer it gets overwhelmed & runs poorly.

What are my best options?

Cloud storage?

External memory?

External hard drive?

Computer = Window 7

    A program will run fastest if it's installed on your internal drive. No modern computer should be slowed by these programs, so I'd start by troubleshooting the problem. More memory and a disk cleanup. defrag and chkdsk would be a good start.

    An external drive would be the second choice.

    An external drive is better.
