What is the book "the hobbit" about?

School assignment, I just didn't have time to read it. Can someone resell me a brief summary of what happens, and I need to know 3 important times in the book (3 seperate characters) where they they either chose to get/buy something when they didn't need it. That Reapized someone else needed it more. Again, 3 different times with 3 different characters. Also(I don't need a page number) but around what point in the book did your examples take place? (3/10 of the way? Half way? Etc.)

No one is going to do the homework for you.

Just because it's cheating doesn't mean it's easy.

Sorry. The consequences of not doing your homework is the lousy grade you will get.

Asking someone else to do your work for you so you can cheat and get a better grade that you don't deserve makes you even more ethically corrupt. Stop before you bankrupts yourself.

And never in the book do they buy things. They acquire swords and gold but they end up leaving most of it for the very reason that they don't need it. (3/10 of the way)

You are robbing yourself from a great book. Read it, that's the only way you will truly do well on your assignment. Let's be honest here, you should do your own homework, you're cheating.
