he was adding up things like these

what age, grade or school year?

we are in the uk, but generally curious.

    It is not really age dependent.

    Learning in mathematics is progressive so upper level 8th graders may be at that level or other students in High School taking algebra will learn it. I've see gifted 5th graders at that level.

    For average people it is in High School in the first two years.

  • Around year 9 but it depends on the class. A high set might do a few bits in year 8, then in year 9 it will be covered briefly but not into detail (year 9 focuses on teaching for unit 1)

    The algebra Gcse module starts in january year 10, so thats when it's looked into in depth.

    In Canada you learn that in grade 10 or sometimes 11. Depending if you are in a university prep class or a college prep class.
