When you need a hotel suggestion always mention what your price range is. The term "cheap" does not mean the same to everyone. Below travel forums will have some hotel suggestions. When you ask for suggestions, besides your price range, also say what area of Bangkok you will need a hotel in.

I like to suggest hotels in the Sukhumvit Road area so you can use the Skytrain. In this area you will find hotels in all price ranges. Also in that area there are malls, street vendors, nightlife, good restaurants and supermarkets. If you are young maybe a hotel in the Khao San Road area will do. No Skytrain in the KSR area. If you are into shopping perhaps a hotel in the Pratunam area will be okay. Some limited access to the Skytrain and Airport Rail link.
Here are some hotels in the Sukhumvit and Khao San Road area. You can also deal directly with the hotel too. If it is during the off season you can call hotels from the airport or, during the day, early evening, you can sometimes get a room with a walk-in. Once you are known to the hotel staff sometimes you can book hotels with a simple email. Christmas - New Years holiday time periods will be higher priced and possibly fully booked.

Bangkok, the capital of Thailand has both old-world charm and modern convenience served up in a seemingly crazy fashion, but generally with a gracious smile, see more with Hotelbye . At 1,600 square kilometres and counting, Bangkok is large, and the many different parts can be bewildering. In Bangkok you can look at the Grand Palace, one of the must-see on this city. The Grand Palace was integrated 1782 and for 150 decades the house of the Thai King, the Royal court and the administrative seat of government. The Grand Palace of Bangkok is just a Grand old dame that remains to have guests in awe with its wonderful structure and intricate depth, most of which is a happy salute to the creativity and design of Thai people.

Khao San Road in Bangkok has very cheap accommodation - you should be able to get a basic room with a shared bathroom from 200 Baht per night, or 500 Baht or more per night for a nicer room and private en suit. Even if you don't pre-book, you'll still be able to find somewhere to stay in this area for sure.
