Okay, I'm 28, and have been vegetarian since I was 10 or 11. Since then I have only accidentally eaten meat about 3 times. Twice were at Chinese restaurants and one time was when somebody told me something was vegetarian when it wasn't. Since I was a little kid I have never intentionally put meat into my mouth. So that's about 17 years. I've got no reason to lie to you.
Congratulations for improving your diet by eating less red meat. Your body will thank you for it. :)

lol, it definitely doesn't make you less of a vegetarian. I think it's great when someone can get over a craving without sacrificing their beliefs. We can't help it if we get occasional cravings, that's not something someone has control over. Anyways, I eat them occasionally. Maybe once a week. Actually, twice or so a week would be more like my limit if it's homemade, and even less than once a week if it's the processed stuff from the store. Regardless though, for me it's not really about it being a fake version of meat. It might have been back when I was a beginner, but now I don't really regard them as 'fake meats', it's more about them tasting good in what I make. And I definitely don't feel bad or like I'm a bad vegan, cause no animal has to suffer or die for me to get it....it's not real meat. It's completely different.

I'm a vegetarian and so far I've gone 6 years without meat. I started when I was 11 and I'm 17 now. I don't know how long people can go without it to be honest. At the moment, I'm perfectly happy with my diet and I can't really see me changing my views on eating meat. However I'm not going to say that I'll never eat meat again because I don't know what the future brings. I certainly want to be a veggie all my life but I'm not an idiot,I know that it may be an unrealistic ambition xD
Some people manage it for all their lives though. There are people that have been born vegetarian and died vegetarian. I've never met any though xD

You're implying that meat has a monopoly on nutrition or it's important. Not true; it's a myth of modern/commercial society. It's also not true that meat contains 'everything we need"(no C, calcium) And once u cook it, it's really deficient.
Many animals are just plant-eaters(horses, turtles, deer). Some of our closest relatives eat just fruit and veg). In nature, meat is survival food, when real-food is scarce. Over time, some animals had to adapt to it.

Yes, it is possible.. Just because you are unable to give up meat completely, doesn't mean other people can't.
Self discipline helps, having a positive attitude helps, if you keep thinking how hard it is to avoid meat you will eventually give in. So yes it is possible to make the decision to never eat meat again and stick with it, as long as you have the will power.

Humans do not have to eat meat. Now there are certain situations where it is more logical to eat meat because vegetables don't have as much protein in such a small serving. For example an Army Ranger. It is more logical for them to eat meat than a vegan diet since they are doing more strenuous activities then lets say a normal person who works out 3-5 days a week. So what you are asking depends on the person and the circumstances. Not everyone is the same nor are their circumstances. As for myself I could last the rest of my life without meat since my life is not as demanding as say a ranger's is.
Will stuck up vegans or vegetarians stop giving rude comments and thumbs downs to things that are factual but maybe something you don't agree with! It's immature and childish. Just shows that you can't handle what you are told. It is a fact that meat has more protein per serving than veggies. Even beans. Sorry but the truth. And for someone who has to go days without food and has to run miles and miles a day it's more logical to consume something that is high in protein like meat. I don't eat it but I'm not blind.

I do not know I am 52 and never eaten a whole serving of meat only tasted chicken once and ate 1 bite of a toco that had it and survived so I am not sure Mom died at the age of 68 of health problems not related to meat and she had not eaten meat sense the age of 3. I do not know how old the oldest vegetarian for life is or was? good Genus book of records if you figure it out. right now mom would be as far as I know but I am sure there are older.

I honestly haven't had a desire to. I never liked meat unless it was absolutely drowning in sauce or seasoning. Your tastes do change after a while. Don't worry about nutrition - every dietary organization and medical association out there says vegetarian/vegan is just fine as long as you put some thought into what you eat.
My wife, on the other hand, couldn't give up In-and-Out burgers, so she gave it up!Source(s): I'm veg, and I did the research.

Hey, I am a vegan (no meat, dairy, eggs or honey) and have gone for over 10 years without eating meat.
In all honesty I found meat the easiest thing in the world to give up. I have never missed it and certainly never felt tempted to eat it. I was never a big meat eater anyway so that probably helped.
I think in any case that it gets easier for everyone over time. I now walk past non-vegan foods in the store and they just don't appeal to me since I can no longer imagine eating them.
