Whats the similarities between subduction and seafloor spreading?

    They essentially cause one another, sea floor spreading could not occur if there were not subducted crust to resurface at a trench, likewise there would be no subduction without sea floor spreading as the spreading is essentially the driving force that pushes the plates.

    Because of this they also happen at nearly the same speed, about 3mm/year.
