What's the closest instrument to a recorder?
I'm quite good at playing the recorder (I can play by ear) and I do well in music at school although I have little instrumental experience, so are there any instruments (that can be played in a band) that have similar note/finger placings? Thanks :)

The closest would probably be the Irish whistle - also called tin whistle: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tin_whistle
These are fun and great instruments and they can be bought from very inexpensive to hand made and expensive ones.
The fingering is actually easier on the tin whistle and you can do more with it. I prefer the sound of the Irish whistle too over the recorder - even though I play both occasionally.
The differences are discussed for instance here: http://www.thesession.org/discussions/display/1365...

You can try the flute (but it is complex) or the claranet (never played it but looks similar to a recorder),but i'm not sure, hope i helped though.
