Why do I have to register through Facebook with Spotify?
It doesn't seem safe? ....

Spotify never required a Facebook account in the past, and for those who registered prior to the requirement are not required to have one.
Spotify is designed to be social. That is the reason for offering Facebook integration. The reason for requiring it however, is slightly different. The point behind requiring it or at least one of the major reasons is to help increase subscribers by letting you share your music habits with those who have never used Spotify. Spotify gets a lot out of the Facebook partnership.
Some of Spotify's competitors do not require it. Rhapsody and Rdio come to mind.
