Where is the DC in DMV located? Is it in Washington or some other state ?

Because that wouldn't make sense if it is in Washington being that it is far from Maryland and Virginia.

A nickname has recently emerged that could put the Washington area on the regional nickname map: the DMV. As in, D for the District, M for Maryland, and V for Virginia.

Washington, DC is not in a state.

Knowing geography or being able to use a map helps, and there is one available in the second source.

It is no longer a rumor, google and yahoo search really works. Try it you will like it.

Washington, DC has its own DMVs, with a few offices located within the district. You only deal with these DMVs if you actually live in Washington, DC. If you live in Maryland or Virginia, you'd go to those state DMVs.

Washington, DC (which is close to Maryland and Virginia) is separate location than Washington state, which is on the other side of the country.
