I, like most Americans today, struggle to make ends meet. Yet, I believe the biggest issue is not the economy -- per se -- but how politicians address the American public regarding these problems in the application of the nation's finances. Cutting taxes (i.e. less income) and spending money "on the side" for unwanted and unwarranted wars (i.e increased spending -- as President Bush, Jr. did) just doesn't get it. The economy would not be in the shape it is today if not for the Bush wars. Mr. Gingrich touts that he is a Reagan acolyte, "and proud of it." Yet Ronald Reagan was elected on the promise of being fiscally responsible, AND BALANCING THE BUDGET. Reagan was neither fiscally responsible nor did he balance the budget. Also, he was no Saint.
In running for President of the United States do the candidates think the American public is either so unaware, or so stupid, that we do not know "fiscal conservative" Ronald Reagan took this nation from 600 some BILLION dollars of national debt -- to some 3 TRILLION. Bush Sr. to 5 TRILLION. Bush Jr. to the committed levels we now have. Yet, it's a positive to be a devote follower of Ronald Reagan!?! How about something new -- instead of something very old, very tired, repeatedly a failure, and something blue?
