What are your favorite covers of Robert Johnson's songs?
1- Robert Johnson's "I Believe I'll Dust My Broom" was covered as just "Dust My Broom" by a lot of artists including Elmore James, Howlin Wolf, Canned Heat, Taj Mahal and Melinda Doolittle but here is my choice.
Dust My Broom - ZZ Top
2 - Crossroad Blues was covered by Cream, Clapton, Rush and John Mayer and probably many others.
My choice would be zcream's but everybody has heard that so I will list Rush's version
Crossroads - Rush
3 - They're Red Hot is not a well known song and I can think of only two covers. Red Hot Chili Peppers and Hugh Laurie.
I'm going with Hugh Laurie
4 - From Four Until Late - I can think of only one cover of this one and that is by Cream
5 - Hellhound on My Trail is one of my favorite covers of old Blues songs - Eric I think gets the feel just right. But I'm going with Fleetwood Mac and Peter Green - Clapton's is better but I have already listed him. LOL
Hellhound on My Trail - Fleetwood Mac
6- Sweet Home Chicago - I love the Taj Mahal cover of this but the Blues Brothers didn't do a bad job either. I will Dan and John a little love and list theirs. Stevie Ray Vaughn really did a great job on this too.
Sweet Home Chicago - The Blues Brothers
7 - Love in Vain - There is only one cover worth mentioning here in my opinion.
Love in Vain - The Rolling Stones
8 - Traveling Riverside Blues - Led Zeppelin's cover is of course my favorite cover of this.
9 - Preachin Blues - The Gun Club - I couldn't decide whether to pick this version or Fleetwood Mac's but since I have already used them I'll go with The Gun Club
10 - Stop Breaking Down Blues - The two best covers of this are by The White Stripes and the Rolling Stones. I used The Rolling Stones earlier so I will use The White Stripes.
Stop Breaking Down
OK now can you think of any other covers of Robert Johnson that you like?
