Is the Sims 3 Generation and Pets Worth The Money?

I really am going to get these games for christmas (four days)!! My dad ordered it already but i really want to know if these are worth the money. Best buy has them on sale buy on get one free and i wanted WA but i really heard it's not a really good game. Can anyone tell me the benefits of generations and pets please!!!
