How to make an electronic check payment?

I have a checking accout with chase. I know my routing and account numbers but what am I supposed to enter for check number? I don't happen to have my checkbook right now cuz I never use it.

so like, 0001? how many numbers should it have?

You choose your next sequence number from your checkbook register or you make one up. You should NEVER write a check or electronic check without your register. That could be considered check kiting (fraud), a serious felony.
