關於不可數名詞

不可屬名詞書上說不能加冠詞a or an

但是看書上有一例句

My father regards computer games as a waste of time.

這個waste在這裡的用法應該是抽象不可屬名詞吧?

怎麼會加a呢

The problem is "waste". This word is a multifunction word, it can be used as a "verb", a "noun", and an "adjective". Here, of course, it is used as "noun". I will ONLY concentrate on "waste" used as a noun.

When "waste" used as a noun, its meaning can be different depends up whether it is countable or uncountable. Here it is used as "singular/uncountable". It means it is uncountable, but ONLY used as singular, to use as singular. It means 浪費, 濫用 in Chinese. In English, it mean:

a situation in which time, money, or energy is used without bringing any

useful result, used as a waste of time/money/effort

It's a waste of time trying to get her to change her mind.

They said a public enquiry would just be a waste of taxpayers' money.

    What a waste!

The structure of "a waste of ..." is the same as

    a piece of paper,

    a deck of card,

    a box of books

it is structured as: a noun1 of noun2.

In this question, it uses an uncountable singular noun "waste" in noun1.

As I have indicated, this is a multifunction word, so you shall spend some time to study its other use as "verb", "adjective", and other meaning in "noun". Then you will have no more trouble from this word.

I found a few typo in my explanation:

[it is used as "noun"] shall be {it is used as a "noun"]

"its meaning can be different depends up whether ...", "up" shall be replaced with "upon".

    sorry for my bad !

    這是ㄧ個用法

    a waste of ㄧ種浪費\濫用

例句:Doing such a job is a waste of his talents. 做這種工作是在浪費他的才能。

    就和我們使用句型來完成一個句子一樣

    Source(s): myself
