    Kofi Annan belonged to Ghana and was born of aristocratic parents.Even at his young age of about 24, he had worked in the World Health Organisation as an officer. After holding various posts in Ghana he again returned to UN service in late 80s and was associated with its activities as Assistant Secretary General. Prior to his becoming the Secretary General of the UN, he was associating with UN peace Keeping operations in Rwanda and Yugoslavia He was Secretary General between 1997 and 2006 and had won the Nobel prize(jointly with UN) in 2001.
