GOP and Republican differences ?

I assuming GOp and Republican are 1 and the same thng ( wikipedia ), but sometimes, newspaper and TV say like it's completely difference; so how can it be - and what are the differences

    "GOP" or "Grand Old Party" is just a nickname for the Republican Party of the United States. They are one and the same. The terms could be used synonymously.

    They are the same, the GOP is a nickname.

    Sort of like calling the Dallas Cowboys America's team or Bruce Springstein "the Boss".
